Monsters

Now that me and Charlotte are thinking of new ideas for our film opening, i've been looking at some movies, this one being Monsters. The film opening begins with the ending of the movie. A possible consideration, maybe.

Vlog #3

80's movies!

After being ill all week I seemed to turn the clock back 20 odd years and visit the 80's, well the movies at least.

The Breakfast Club:

Brian Johnson: Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...
Andrew Clark: ...and an athlete...
Allison Reynolds: ...and a basket case...
Claire Standish: ...a princess...
John Bender: ...and a criminal...
Brian Johnson: Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club.

I seek comfort in the cheesy lines and big hair, but john hughes is a prime example of why I want to be involved in movies. He created worlds that you want to be a part of, worlds that you relish in. The fun and silliness of life can be found in The Breakfast club, Weird Science, or Sixteen Candles but the sad thing is, it's rare to find it in film lately. I want to see a movie where if i'm dying of the flu, I actually feel better afterwards because of the 21st century equivalent quote of "Eat my shorts". What that is, I have no idea.
It's amazing how films have evolved over the years. We've moved out of the happy, shiny, feel-good phase. And maybe that's for the best, but I love that we have 80's movies to watch when we feel sick or down.

However technical stuff aside like angles and mise-en-scene, ultimately audience reaction is key. The abilty to make someone cry over a character you've only known a couple of hours or feeling your heart break when two people don't end up together, that's what the movies are all about. And the 80's do movies proud.
